Our mission is to Rescue, Rehabilitate, Retrain & Permanently Rehome horses that have been abused, abandoned, neglected or are otherwise at risk. As we educate the public about the care and treatment of animals, provide emergency services and offer sponsorship and adoption opportunities to those who wish to be a real part of a horse’s life and well being.
We would rather work with a limited amount of horses that go on to live happy lives, by offering the care and nurture required to accomplish that goal, than pen horses who may remain at risk in the long term.
As of August 2020 JHAR provides care and rehabilitation for twenty five horses on a 5 acre ranch on the beautiful Mesa close to Joshua Tree, CA, the private home of our generous founders Joe & Melinda Allen.
ALL our horses are safely corralled and loved by volunteers and the tireless efforts and generosity of the "Allen's"
We provide individualized rehabilitation and retraining programs for "at risk" and owner surrendered horses including but not limited to:
Quality food, shelter, veterinary & farrier care, training and day to day, love, care and incidentals for successful permanent adoption.
Hard work, long hours and your help!
We cannot do this alone, always grateful for our volunteers, supporters and sponsors . We need more help and welcome and appreciate every grant, corporate & personal donation and your valuable time.
There are so many ways to be a part of our rescue, click on the quick links below for more information or call, drop us a line or drop by to become part of the JHAR family.
In 2021 we will be reaching out to local establishments in the high desert to participate in fund raising events and to be part of our new all expenses donated program. A way for local businesses to donate meals, accommodation and local attraction events for out of town donors and sponsors coming for weekend "muck in's" and other fund raising programs we will be running to keep the barn doors open. Of course, this will take place when we are safe to socialize again in larger groups.
